📍Places Visited: Belize City
Belize offers a vibrant mix of jungle adventures, ancient Mayan ruins, and turquoise waters brimming with marine life. From the bustling streets of Belize City to the laid-back charm of San Pedro on Ambergris Caye, the country is perfect for travelers seeking hands-on experiences and natural beauty. Adventure seekers, wildlife lovers, and water enthusiasts will all find something to captivate them.
Even amidst adventure, Belize provides peaceful escapes. Relax in the serene waters of Caye Caulker, watch a sunset over the Caribbean, or stroll along quiet beaches on Ambergris Caye. The lush jungle surrounding Belize City offers shaded hikes, river trails, and hidden spots perfect for quiet reflection.
Take a day to disconnect—whether it’s floating on a calm river, strolling along the beach, or soaking in the sun on a quiet caye.
Belize’s rich history is visible at sites like Altun Ha, an ancient Mayan temple complex where towering stone structures and ceremonial plazas speak to centuries of civilization. Local markets in Belize City and San Pedro showcase handmade crafts, vibrant textiles, and fresh produce, giving travelers a window into everyday Belizean life.
English is the official language, but learning a few phrases in Kriol or Spanish can enhance interactions, especially at local markets and smaller towns.
Don’t miss the Belize Zoo, where you can safely feed and interact with native species like jaguars and tapirs. For local flavor, try fresh seafood, especially barracuda—a Belizean specialty.
Belize City gave me easy access to jungle adventures and tours, but the city itself felt slow-paced and didn’t have any good beaches. If you want a more vibrant Caribbean vibe and sandy shores, I’d recommend visiting San Pedro on Ambergris Caye.
Favorite Highlights? The mud ATV ride and river tubing, along with exploring an underground cave, provided thrilling adventure. Snorkeling in Caye Caulker was unforgettable—I swam with stingrays and baby sharks, a peaceful yet exhilarating experience. Feeding a native jaguar at the Belize Zoo offered a rare, intimate wildlife encounter. I also tried freshly prepared barracuda—it wasn’t my favorite, but tasting it was a fun way to experience local cuisine.
