South Korea is a fascinating blend of past and future. In Seoul, centuries-old palaces and hanok villages sit beside towering skyscrapers and 3D billboards that make you feel like images are leaping into real life. The city buzzes with creativity, innovation, and everyday comfort foods like fried chicken—delicious, crispy, and found almost everywhere.
Even in this high-energy city, there are spaces for calm. A stroll through Bukchon Hanok Village offers a quiet step back in time, with winding alleyways lined by traditional wooden houses. For a balance of culture and green space, Yeollin Songhyeon Square offers an open-air cultural park perfect for walks, photos, or just slowing down after sightseeing.
Pair busy city explorations with breaks in hanok cafés or green squares. It’s the best way to recharge while staying immersed in Seoul’s flow.
South Korea’s cultural depth shines in its landmarks and public spaces.
Koreans value harmony and respect in social interactions. A polite bow when greeting, using both hands when giving or receiving items, and showing respect to elders go a long way. Also, shoes are removed before entering traditional homes or some restaurants.
High-speed trains can take you to Busan or Gyeongju in just a few hours—great for day or weekend trips.
In Seoul, I noticed how seamlessly tradition and innovation exist side by side. Visiting Bukchon Hanok Village felt like stepping back in time, while just a few blocks away, towering skyscrapers and 3D billboards showcased the city’s cutting-edge technology. Fried chicken was everywhere and absolutely delicious. I also spent time at Ssamzigil, which was colorful and perfect for unique souvenirs. Watching the royal guard ceremony at Gwanghwamun Square was a highlight, with the precision and elegance of traditional attire on display.
Trains made exploring simple and comfortable—an easy way to get around the city and beyond. One thing I noticed: people do tend to stare a little at foreigners. It’s not unfriendly, just curiosity—something to be aware of as part of the travel experience.
